Dumb Ways to Build Connection & Voice Chat Fixes

These fixes come from PlaySide’s support centre, its pinned Steam forum post and developer replies on the forum, checked on 11 September 2026.

Check this first: same version

PlaySide says you cannot play multiplayer if you are not on the latest version. Everyone in the crew should update:

Steam: verify the integrity of the game files.
PS5: highlight the game, press Options, then Check for Update.
Xbox: My Games & Apps > See all > Manage > Updates.

The version number shows in the bottom-left of the main menu and of the pause menu.

Players in China

On launch day PlaySide pinned a notice: some players in China could not reach the game because some accelerator services had not whitelisted it, and voice chat could also fail. Hotfix 1.2.70 (Steam build 25236478), released the same day, targets these connection and voice problems. PlaySide warned that it may disable voice chat for some players while they keep working on it.

If you still cannot connect after updating, contact support through the chat on PlaySide’s help centre.

Players in Russia

A developer confirmed the game is sold in Russia with no VPN restriction on PlaySide’s side, but some internet providers block the game servers. PlaySide’s suggestions:

Try Cloudflare WARP (free): in the app, use 1.1.1.1 with WARP, not the DNS-only mode.
If that fails, a VPN to a nearby region such as the EU may work, although not with every provider.
Or contact your internet provider.

Solo Play worked for players who could not create or join rooms, so you can still play while you sort it out.

Voice chat and microphones

The game uses proximity voice chat. If your microphone is not detected:

make sure your microphone works in other apps and try a different one if you have it,
remember that hotfix 1.2.70 may have disabled voice chat for some players in China,
if it still does not show up, send a report through the support centre chat.

A Japanese player whose Yamaha AG03 audio interface appeared as a speaker rather than a microphone was asked by a developer to open a support ticket and to try another microphone.

Wrong lobby from a Room Code

Hotfix 1.2.70 also fixed a bug where duplicate Room Codes could be generated. If a code took you into the wrong lobby on launch day, update and have the host share a fresh code.

Lag and stuttering

For frame-rate problems rather than connection problems: verify the files, update GPU and CPU drivers, lower the graphics settings or turn off V-Sync. See the system requirements for the recommended hardware.
